Celebrating "The Man"
Stanley Frank Musial was hands down one of the greatest players and individuals to play Major League Baseball. There is little doubt Stan was and is the greatest Cardinal of them all. Unfortunately, Stan has never received the recognition he deserves on the national stage. Perhaps this is due to spending his entire career in the mid-market, midwestern city of St. Louis. Perhaps it is because of the quiet and good-natured manner which he went about his business. Regardless of the reason, Stan Musial deserves better.
Recently, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game was held in St. Louis. This, St. Louisans thought, was Stan's moment. His team, his town, and the national stage. Ted Williams received a great Tribute in Boston in 1999. Willie Mays got his in San Francisco in 2007. July 14, 2009 at Busch Stadium, was to be Stan's night. The night came, and Stan did receive a moment, but it was little more than that. A variety of other pre-game events, through no fault of the participants, upstaged Stan's night.
And that was the motivation for this site. Sadly, there will probably never be an opportunity like that which was missed in mid-July, but tributes can still be paid to "the Man." This site was created so that any fan, media person, or pehaps even player would be able to share their Stan Musial stories, memories, and tributes. So please submit and help create this tribute to Stan.
